Smorstad's Scoop- April 29

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

We had a great week! We have learned all about plants this week. Each student selected 2 plants they would like to research and then they were put into pairs based on their interests. They read informational text on their plant and took notes. Next week we will turn our notes into a research paper. I have been so proud at how nice of a job they did on these! It seems so grown up for my students to read and research a topic!

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

What a great week! We had a fabulous week with spring like weather and a special field trip. I want to say a BIG thank you to the Workman family for making this Papa John’s field trip possible. The kids had a blast! Thank you to the parents who sent in food/drinks to make our meal complete. We all enjoyed quite the feast that was provided. This was definitely a great 2nd grade memory for our class. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Smorstad's Scoop- April 15th

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

We have had a great week back to school! It has hard to believe there are only 30- something days left. I was able to hear all about spring break through their personal stories this week. I was excited to see more consistent punctuation and capital letters- yay! This week we have really practiced responding to what we read in our reading response journals and this extra writing practice will give everyone the push in the right direction.

Caleb was a great star student!

This week we are learning about our new math workshop-

The DAILY 4 MATH BLOCK! Students are learning independent math behaviors in order for me to teach math in small groups more effectively. I taught expectations, modeled the activities, and then they got the opportunity to build up stamina to practice independent work stations. Ask your child about *Write on Math *Share on Math *Hands on Math and *Brain on Math! Find out about their favorite one- we are excited about this new learning time!

...Classroom News....

Lacey was a great star student!

I have had several questions about the math objective “Knows addition facts to 20” on the report card. This is referring to the timed tests we are working on.

In January students were expected to be on +7’s and this term they were expected to have addition facts completed and beginning subtraction timed tests. I hope this helps to explain the fluctuation of the grades in this area.

Please returned signed report cards as soon as possible!
