Smorstad's Scoop- January 29th

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

This week we wrapped up our states of matter unit, and were able to observe what happened when we mixed different kitchen items. I have been impressed at how well they have done with time to the hour and half hour. We will complete this unit and take a test next week. The biggest thing to review with your child is that the minute hand is long and the hour hand is short. Please continue to read at home and return your reading log on Fridays. This time of year is typically where we see the most growth. Have your child tell you about the who, what, where, when, and why of what they are reading!

Smorstad's Scoop- January 22nd

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

This week we quickly got back into our normal routine. We completed our unit on number patterns and will begin with telling time next week. Please begin pointing out the time to your child if you do not already do so. At this point our focus will be on time to the hour and half hour. We also will be conducting several experiments to show the change in states of matter to wrap up our matter unit. They get so excited to be little scientist. Now that we have learned and practiced our addition facts to 20, we have held several games of around the world. This is a great time to invest in a set of flash cards for your child to practice at home!

Webpage difficulties??

I have heard from viewers that their computer is showing the most recent post as December 18th... I have posted twice since then and am concerned that what I am seeing isn't what you are seeing??? So if you are able to see this post and the two most recent Smorstad's Scoop, please email me (sarah.smorstad@jessamine.kyschools.us). If I don't receive any emails I will assume that we are having some issues communicating through the blog! I need to get that fixed ASAP. I appreciate your help in this matter. I hope you enjoy your long weekend!

Smorstad's Scoop- January 15th

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

We started this week with our grade level SMART assembly. Many students in our classroom were recognized for their SMART behavior in our class and in the special’s classes. We also finished up writing letters and I am excited for friend’s and family to receive the letters we mailed out. In science, we kicked off our matter unit with Bill Ney the Science Guy… and the students were quite entertained with his silly humor. We had a very productive week and I am so proud of the way they have jumped right back into a routine of trying their best!

Smorstad's Scoop- January 11th

Sorry that this was not updated this weekend. My newsletter was saved at school!! When we have snow days (in the future.... hopefully!!) please check our classroom blog for schedule or homework changes!

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

We had a great week back to school! Once we all “woke up” we were ready to learn and get back into a routine. This week we talked about new years resolutions and what small changes we can make to become better students, children to our parents, or friends to our classmates. They all came up with a resolution and they are displayed in the hallway! It was also exciting to write many letters this week. They enjoyed getting a secret letter from a classmate and getting to mail letters to friends and family! Thanks for making this possible.

** What’s new for you? **

· You will receive TPRO test information (taken in October) in your child’s progress report.

· We will be starting a science unit on states of matter next week. It is a good time to expose your child to solids, liquids, and gas to give them a knowledge bank as we start this new material.

· Next time we have snow days, please refer to our classroom blog to get scheduling information.
