It is hard to believe we are almost through the month of February. I hope that March brings some pretty spring weather. We wrapped up our geometry unit this week. Next week we will begin two digit subtraction and then work into subtraction with barrowing. This skill will take some time for most students and can be a bit confusing. You may notice some changes in the homework packet to be sure students get plenty of subtraction skill practice!

SPRING FLING BASKET

We will begin collecting items for our class basket for the Spring Fling silent auction. As a class they chose to theme our basket “Easter.” Please send in new items if you would like to contribute. We will collect items until Thursday, March 10^th!

**If you PRE-ORDER tickets for the spring fling they will be sent home Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday before the event. If yours do not get sent home they will be waiting for you at the front table.

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

Wow!! This weather has been such a nice break from the cold and snow. We were able to redeem our smart chart of playing on the BIG playground and a few extra minutes of banked free play this week. It was wonderful! We kicked off our geometry unit in math. They have had so much fun manipulating shapes and taking a little brain break from numbers. Next week we will kick off our country study and learn all about Japan! I am excited about all we are learning.

We have had a good week! Remember, our Valentine’s party is on Monday and your child needs to bring in a container to collect their Valentines. We will NOT be decorating them at school.

This week we have studied about all different kinds of weather and even did our own mini-research projects. They had fun presenting the different storms to their classmates.

Don’t forget to keep your calendars marked for our Family Literacy Night!!

Matthew has been a great star student this week!

* We are moving onto our geometry unit. This will be a nice, needed break from numbers! Have your child go on a shape hunt while driving in the car. Shapes are all around us!

* This week’s homework will only include one spelling sheet, a math review practice page, and a reading log. Homework is due EVERY Friday!

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

WOW~ a 5 day week!!! It is hard to believe we have finally completed a full week. We are all exhausted but thankful to have had some better weather. We were able to wrap up our economics unit. They have learned a lot about how we as consumers take part in our economy.

Please be sure to read the Valentine’s letter to be in the know about our celebration!

Palmer has been a great star student this week!

* Have your child practice counting coins at home. We are especially working on showing two ways to make specific amounts of mixed coins.

* We will be having a Valentine’s Party on February 14^th. Each student needs to bring in their own decorated container to collect Valentine’s from their friends. Allow them to decorate any type of box or bag! There will be a winner for the most creative Valentine’s box/bag!
