**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

I thought we were going to finish a full 5 day week! I know there were some very happy first graders on the snow day! We played meteorologist this week in science as we learned about the weather. I was surprised for the number of them who were still hoping for a snow day! We also wrapped up our introduction to subtraction unit in math and got a start on the next steps of subtraction. This math program does a great job teaching the math processes so they fully understand the concept of subtraction.

**Homework Preview**

I am so sorry about the homework mix up this week!! If your child did the long e homework it will be sent back home, so they can fill out the reading log to return it on Friday! Thank you for being so flexible when I make a mistake :)

**Spring Fling Information**

Spring Fling is so much fun! There will be games, food, and fun for all. Mark your calendars to be there!

Here is how we need your help:

*Send in ANYTHING chocolate for our gift basket!

*Sign up to volunteer in one of the first grade games. Sign up sheets were sent home earlier this week, please return those as soon as possible! We still have the 2:00-3:00 time slot available.

Well, I thought for sure that we would have a 5 day week this week!!! So sure that when I wrote my newsletter yesterday.... I know, I am on the ball :).... I put "WOW- we made it through a full week!!" Oh well, maybe next week.

News for tomorrow.... we will still have a spelling test tomorrow! :)

Smorstad's Scoop- February 19th

*WEEKLY SCOOP*

Well, so much for making up a snow day this week! I hope that you all were able to play and relax a little over our long weekend. This week we kicked it into high gear and worked very hard to get caught up so that we can start something new next week.

We have decided to cancel our Family Literacy Night for next Thursday. We have had conflicts with snow days and scheduling with other grade levels.

~Classroom News~

* Our class earned 50 days of perfect attendance this week. I have been very impressed with our attendance this school year.

* I shared exciting news with our class that you may be hearing at home.... I am expecting baby #2 and very excited!

* We completed our 17th SMART chart during this 2 day week!

Homework Preview:

Next week we will learn about the long a sound made by ay and ai. These can be tricky!!

Snow Day Schedule Changes

Due to the 2 snow days this week, we have some changes in store. Please read and take note of the following announcements.

February 15th: President's Day- We will have school to make up Tuesday's snow day!!

Specials Schedule:

Thursday: Art

Friday: Music/Gym

* Library check out in the morning.

Classroom Changes:

* Spelling/Homework: We will not have a spelling test on Friday, nor will homework be due. We will do winter and Valentine reading activities on Thursday and Friday and then we will pick up this week's reading unit next week. We will have our test on the long u words next Friday.

* Star Student: We will pick up star student activities on Thursday and do them in order. (Thurs- Show and Tell, Fri- snack, Mon- special parent letter) Jacob will continue to be our star student through next week. I like everyone to be the star for a full five days.

Smorstad's Scoop- February 5th

**WEEKLY SCOOP!**

This week we started our science unit on Earth materials. We have examined many kinds of rocks. Next week, please have your child bring a rock to school on Monday, we will use it all week and it will be sent home by Friday.

We also will exchange class Valentines on Friday. Please have your child bring in one Valentine for each classmate. (See list of student names.)

This week we were on the ball with getting caught being smart. We completed 2 smart charts and were rewarded for awesome behavior!

You can help our school.... here's how!! If it snows and you come to Wilmore to sled please move your car if they come to clear our parking lot. We need it to be safe for us when it is time to come back to school. Thanks :)
